#NOTECHFORICE WORKSHOP
julio 14, 2020 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Technological advances have revolutionized the world around us, as a society, we are capable of coordinating many tasks on our cell phones with just the click of a button. Unfortunately, these same technologies that are supposed to make the world a better place are also invading our privacy and extracting our data, often without our consent. This had led to an ever-expanding state of surveillance.
Mijente has organized against migrant prosecutions and deportations, and technology has always come in the picture of aiding the acceleration of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Tech companies like Palantir, Amazon, and others are building the tools used to surveil, incarcerate, and deport our communities. The Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights (GLAHR) has worked in the efforts to take back tech by continuing the fight against a state of surveillance in the state of Georgia, and we continue mobilizing even during this pandemic.
The NoTechforICE campaign aims to create a free future for our pueblo by taking back TECH. GLAHR understands that the fight is a constant struggle; that is why we cordially invite you to join us Tuesday, July 14th, from 6 pm to 8 pm for an informational workshop to learn more about the #NoTechforICE campaign from Jacinta Gonzalez, Senior Campaign Organizer at Mijente. Jacinta has led an intense fight to take back tech and has participated in informational workshops, including a “surveillance state” workshop with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center. Most recently, Jacinta, alongside Mijente, hosted a workshop that included Naomi Klein and Edward Snowden. Jacinta is an inspiration and powerful woman that teaches us how to free our future and take back tech.
